Built on a Modern Foundation: The CMF-B Platform

The new Duster rides on the Alliance's versatile CMF-B modular platform. Quite an upgrade from its predecessor, it promises much better structural rigidity, finer driving dynamics, and a base strong enough for introducing the latest technology, including electrification. This positions the new Duster to take a serious fight with the segment leaders: Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Grand Vitara.

First Look Review: Design and Features 

The 2026 Renault Duster shed its old-school look for a muscular, thoroughly modern design that was heavily inspired by the Bigster concept.

Exteriors are rugged yet sophisticated. Key highlights include a massive bold grille with the new Renault logo, sleek LED headlamps flanked by signature Y-shaped LED DRLs, and aggressive body cladding around the squared-off wheel arches. Its tall stance and prominent roof rails reinforce its SUV DNA.

Interior: Renault has raised the bar for the cabin substantially. The dash wears a clean, layered look with angular elements and Y-shaped AC vents carrying over its design from the outside DRLs. Features expected on the India-spec model:

A large 10.1-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

A 7-inch digital driver display.

Features an automatic climate control and a premium Arkamys 3D sound system.

But for the first time on a Renault in India, the Duster is expected to feature a suite of ADAS, adding a crucial layer of modern safety.

Safety: The new Duster is likely to be loaded with features like six airbags as standard, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control, and a 360-degree camera.

Powertrain and the Duster Hybrid India Story

One of the biggest changes is a shift towards a petrol-only strategy, with no diesel engine expected at launch. Powertrain options look set to be based around two powerful turbo-petrol engines:

1.0-litre Turbo-Petrol: May be an entry-level option, maintaining a balance between performance and efficiency.

1.3-litre Turbo-Petrol (with Mild-Hybrid): This could be the primary proposition and may develop around 156 PS of power, with manual and automatic (CVT) transmission options.

Speculation for the Duster hybrid is high in India. Although the world model has a decent hybrid powertrain, where a 1.6-litre petrol engine is combined with two electric motors, sources indicate that 

Renault might focus more on the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol mild-hybrid, that is more affordable, at the initial stage in the Indian market. However, the probability of the arrival of a strong-hybrid model later, able to take direct competition to Maruti Grand Vitara/Toyota Hyryder, cannot be completely avoided. Crucially, enthusiasts will be thrilled by the likely return of a capable AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) variant.

Price Expectations: How much will the new Duster cost? The new-generation Duster represents a significant step-up over its predecessor in size, features, and platform technology. This will obviously make the car more expensive than the previous-generation model.
