Audi Q8 e-tron vs. BMW iX: The Battle for India’s Luxury EV Throne

Luxury EVs in India: Performance Review of the Audi Q8 e-tron and BMW iX

India’s luxury car scene is changing fast. Diesel engines used to rule the roads, but now it’s all about electric power — and 2025 is the year it really takes hold. Leading the charge are two big names: the Audi Q8 e-tron and the BMW iX. If you want European luxury with a clean conscience, these two are right at the top of the list. So, how do they stack up when it comes to performance and presence?

The Audi Q8 e-tron: Quiet Confidence

Audi’s Q8 e-tron doesn’t shout for attention. It looks like a classic Audi SUV, just one that runs on electricity instead of fuel. No spaceship vibes, just refined, familiar style.

Under the hood — or rather, under the floor — you get a 114 kWh battery in the top Q8 e-tron 55. This thing pumps out 408 hp and 664 Nm of torque when you hit boost mode. It’ll rocket from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. Pretty quick, but what really stands out is how it drives. Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive gets an electric twist here, and the adaptive air suspension makes rough Indian roads feel almost smooth. The Q8 e-tron feels heavy, but in a way that gives you confidence. Plus, it’s whisper-quiet inside. You can actually hear yourself think.

Range anxiety?

Not really. Audi claims up to 600 km on a full charge (WLTP). That’s enough for long trips between cities like Delhi and Jaipur, or Mumbai and Pune, without breaking a sweat.

The BMW iX: Bold and Unapologetic

If Audi keeps things subtle, BMW does the exact opposite. The iX looks futuristic — some say daring, with that huge vertical grille — and the inside feels more like a luxury lounge than a regular SUV.

The iX xDrive50 isn’t just for show. Its 111.5 kWh battery delivers a whopping 523 hp and 765 Nm of torque, which means 0 to 100 km/h comes up in a wild 4.6 seconds. For a big SUV, that’s sports car territory. BMW keeps it agile too, thanks to a carbon-fiber-reinforced “Carbon Cage” that cuts weight and adds strength. The steering is sharp, and instead of engine noise, you get electric sound effects crafted by Hans Zimmer. It’s a different kind of thrill.

On range, the iX xDrive50 manages up to 635 km (WLTP). Right now, that’s about as good as it gets for luxury EVs in India.

Side-by-Side: What’s the Verdict?

Here’s the quick breakdown:

Audi Q8 e-tron (55) vs. BMW iX (xDrive50)

0-100 km/h: 5.6 sec vs. 4.6 sec

Battery: 114 kWh vs. 111.5 kWh

Peak Power: 408 hp vs. 523 hp

Claimed Range: 600 km vs. 635 km

Vibe: Understated, practical luxury vs. Bold, tech-forward lounge

Step inside the Audi and it feels like a pilot’s cockpit — three crisp screens, familiar layouts, and the kind of build quality you’d expect from Germany. It’s high-tech but not overwhelming.

The BMW iX is a different world. There’s a sweeping curved display, a quirky hexagonal steering wheel, and “Shy Tech” features that stay hidden until you need them. BMW leans into sustainability, with touches like olive-leaf tanned leather and parts made from recycled fishing nets. It’s a luxury SUV for people who want to make a statement — and care about the environment while doing it.

So, which one wins?

That depends on your style. Audi’s Q8 e-tron is all about classic luxury, comfort, and a quiet, confident drive. The BMW iX is bold, packed with tech, and a bit of a show-off — in a good way. Either way, the luxury EV game in India just got a lot more interesting.
