Where Mobility Meets Media. The Afeela 1: Crafted by Honda, Powered by Sony
Drive the Future: The Afeela 1 is a Software-Defined Spacecraft
Cars aren’t just cars anymore. They’re turning into rolling tech platforms, and the Afeela 1 is proof. This is Sony Honda Mobility’s first shot at an EV—a mid-size, all-electric liftback sedan born from a true 50/50 partnership. You get Honda’s rock-solid build and chassis know-how, plus Sony’s flair for electronics, entertainment, and sensor tech. The Afeela 1 isn’t just an electric car; it’s a software-driven, always-updating, deeply personal tech platform on wheels.
Production kicks off in the US in 2026. The top-tier Signature model lands first, starting at $102,900, with deliveries set for mid-year. Afeela 1 goes straight at the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air, but with a twist: take Honda’s safety and reliability, wrap it in clean, understated style, then pack it with Sony’s best digital experience.
The Tech Stack: 40 Sensors and 800 TOPS
Here’s what makes the Afeela 1 tick: sheer computational muscle. Sony Honda Mobility follows three core ideas—Autonomy, Augmentation, and Affinity. That means the car is loaded, maybe even a little over the top, with 40 sensors inside and out. We’re talking cameras, LiDAR, radar, ultrasonics—the works.
All that data funnels into a beast of an ECU, built on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis. It hits up to 800 trillion operations per second. With that much power, you get:
* AFEELA Intelligent Drive: Their own Level 2+ driver assist system, with Level 3 coming through future updates. It uses AI for full-route guidance and environmental awareness, knocking down driver stress in a big way.
* Immersive Visualization: Every bit of sensor data gets turned into slick 3D graphics on a massive panoramic display. Thanks to Unreal Engine, AR navigation and maps look straight out of a movie.
Mobility as Entertainment Space
Here’s where Afeela 1 really stands out. Sony’s entertainment chops turn the cabin into a creative lounge on wheels.
Panoramic Display: The dash is basically one giant screen, managed by a Personal Agent—an AI that actually talks to you and handles controls or gives personal suggestions.
360 Spatial Sound: Sony’s audio tech surrounds you with rich, precise sound while noise-cancelling tech keeps things whisper-quiet.
Rear Entertainment: In the Signature model, rear passengers get two big 12.9-inch screens for games, movies, and more, turning road trips into something you actually look forward to.
Design, Powertrain, and Practicality
The outside? Clean lines, aerodynamic curves, and one eye-catching detail—a Media Bar. It’s an LED strip on the front that can show the car’s logo, charge status, or custom graphics. It’s simple, but it pops.
Under the skin, the Afeela 1 packs plenty of muscle:
Powertrain: Dual motors, all-wheel drive, with about 483 horsepower (360 kW).
Range & Charging: A 91 kWh battery aims for 300 miles (480 km) of range and uses the NACS port, so you get access to Tesla’s Supercharger network.
By blending Honda’s legendary manufacturing with Sony’s digital magic, the Afeela 1 isn’t just another luxury EV. It’s trying to become the ultimate connected device—a real extension of your digital world, wherever you drive.
